Cyndee Hawkins

Cyndee Hawkins taught instrumental music in grades 5-12 for 33 years prior to her retirement in June, 2015. For 28 of those years, she served in the Lafayette High School pyramid, primarily at Jessie Clark Middle School in Lexington, Kentucky. Her previous teaching experience included band and orchestra positions in Virginia and Texas as well as serving as an adjunct instructor of Instrumental Music Pedagogy at Transylvania University in Lexington. Cyndee is currently an Instructional Coach at George Rogers Clark HS, Winchester, KY; serves as a guest honor band conductor and concert band assessment adjudicator in Kentucky and recently served as chief adjudicator at the Victoria School Music Festival for Young Bands in Melbourne, Australia. Mrs. Hawkins has served on the staff of Music For All Summer Symposium since 2010, teaching in the Young Directors/Middle School Directors track.

A native of Wisconsin, Mrs. Hawkins received a BME from James Madison University (VA) and an MM from Morehead State University (KY). Mrs. Hawkins was honored as the Phi Beta Mu Outstanding Kentucky Bandmaster in 2007. She was also named the 2000-2001 Middle School Teacher of the Year by the Central Kentucky Music Educators Association (KMEA District 7/11).

She lives in Lexington with her husband Ben. They have two sons, Jay, 25 and Turner, 22.
