Cyndee Hawkins taught instrumental music in grades 5-12 for 33 years prior to her retirement in June, 2015. For 28 of those years, she served in the Lafayette High School pyramid, primarily at Jessie Clark Middle School in Lexington, Kentucky. Her previous teaching experience included band and orchestra positions in Virginia and Texas. Since her retirement, she has served in a consulting role with band programs in the Lexington area. Mrs. Hawkins has served on the staff of Music for All Summer Symposium since 2010, teaching in the Young Directors/Middle School Directors tracks.
A native of Wisconsin, Mrs. Hawkins received a BME from James Madison University (VA) and an MM from Morehead State University (KY).
Mrs. Hawkins was honored as the Phi Beta Mu Outstanding Kentucky Bandmaster in 2007. She was also named the 2000-2001 Middle School Teacher of the Year by the Central Kentucky Music Educators Association (KMEA District 7/11).
She lives in Lexington with her husband Ben. They have two sons, Jay, 24 and Turner, 21.
