Emily Gurwitz, head band director at Bradley Middle School, has been teaching middle school band for 24 years. Mrs. Gurwitz received her Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Trinity University in San Antonio and her Master of Music in Flute Performance from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Under her direction, the Bradley Middle School Bands have received consistent Sweepstakes Awards as well as other awards at various competitions throughout the state. In 2013, the Bradley Middle School Honor Band placed first in the TMEA Region 12 Honor Band competition.
In addition to being a band director, Mrs. Gurwitz teaches private lessons to high school flute students. Her high school students have placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the state in the 6A competition and she has had over 15 Texas all-state flute students. Her flute students have also won various concerto competitions and have been awarded scholarships to study music at many different universities. This year, Mrs. Gurwitz taught her first private trumpet student, a freshman, who also placed in the 6A all-state band.
