Dr. Michelle Bluford is currently in her 19th year in the Elkhorn Public School District. Prior to teaching in Elkhorn, Michelle spent six years for Ponca Public School and six years at Omaha Benson. Her title at all three schools was Director of Instrumental Music. Her Concert Bands, Jazz Bands and Orchestras have performed at the regional, state and national levels.
In her 31 years of teaching, Michelle has had numerous All – State Band/Orchestra/Jazz Band members. Her bands, orchestras, and jazz bands have consistently earned Superior Plus and Superior ratings at District Music Contest, state and regional competitions.
Dr. Michelle Bluford received her Bachelor of Music Education from Morningside College, her Masters in Music Education and Doctorate in Ethic Studies from Covington Theological Seminary.
She is an active clinician and adjudicator throughout the Midwest. She has served on the staff of the 402 Indoor Drumline. She serves as the Education Consultant for the 402 Arts Collective. She is also a staff member of the Nebraska Ambassadors of Music and has conducted one of the bands for that European Tour since 2007. Michelle is a member of NSBA, NMEA, and EEA. She has served as the NMEA Band Affairs Chair, the NSBA President, Secretary and Concert Band Festival Chair. She was a member of the Sioux City Symphony for 30 seasons. In 2016 Michelle was invited by Fran Kick to be a part of the Music For All Leadership Training Weekend Experience.
Michelle has been named the 1994 Young Women of Excellence by ABWA, Who’s Who in Teaching in 1996, 1997, 1998 & 1999. Benson High School awarded her the PTSA Teacher of the Year in 1999 that year she also was awarded one of the seven Alice Buffet Outstanding Teacher Awards. The Elkhorn High Student Council awarded her the Outstanding Teacher of the year in 2002. In 2005 Michelle was presented with the Golden Apple Educator of the Year by the Elkhorn Education Foundation. She has also been named the 2005 – 2006 Outstanding Music Educator by NFHS and presented with the Silver Baton Award by Kappa Kappa Psi, Kappa Delta Chapter. In 2016 she was nominated for Schmitt Music’s Director of the year and was given the Inspiring Teacher Award by the students of the Church of Latter Day Saints, Elkhorn Ward.
When she isn’t working Michelle enjoys working out, reading, biking, traveling and seeing movies with friends.
