Ellen Chmura is in her first year serving as the Assistant Band Director at Cain Middle School. Ms. Chmura graduated from Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights, Illinois and went on to study Music Education at the University of North Texas. During her time at UNT, she studied horn with Bill Scharnberg and was a member of the Wind Symphony under Eugene Corporon and the Symphonic Band under Dennis Fisher. While in both of these bands, Ms. Chmura participated in ensemble and solo recording sessions with distinguished composers including Frank Ticheli and Julie Giroux. She was also a drum major of the UNT Green Brigade Marching Band, and conducted the halftime show at the 2016 Heart of Dallas Bowl. Her time at UNT was concluded by student teaching at Hebron High School with Andy Sealy and Killian Middle School with Rob Chilton.
Ms. Chmura spent four summers as a performer with Drum Corps International—three with the Phantom Regiment from Rockford, Illinois—and aged out with the 18-time World Champion Concord Blue Devils in 2017. Ms. Chmura is continuing her involvement with DCI as a high brass instructor for the Pacific Crest Drum and Bugle Corps from Diamond Bar, California. Ms. Chmura has also worked as a visual instructor with several marching bands in the DFW area including Flower Mound High School and Marcus High School. Her professional affiliations include Texas Music Educators Association and Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity.
