Ira Jenkins is currently the Associate Director of Bands at Alpharetta High School in Alpharetta, Georgia. Prior to Alpharetta Mr. Jenkins taught elementary, middle, and high school bands in Atlanta Public Schools, Cobb County, Fulton County, Westchester County (NY), and Bergen County (NJ). His bands have consistently earned superior ratings and have performed at the High Notes Music Festival (CT), Ossining LIVE (NY), Carowinds Music Festival (NC), VH-1 (GA), NYSSMA Majors, Six Flags Music Festivals (GA), and many GMEA LGPEs. Mr. Jenkins’ students have earned chairs in County and District Honor Bands as well as All State Bands. While teaching at Alpharetta High School, the band has been featured at Music For All’s Southeastern Regional Concert Festival, GMEA’s state music conference, and at Carnegie Hall.
Mr. Jenkins’ responsibilities have extended far beyond the classroom. He has served as an assistant high school marching band director, visual caption head, color guard caption head, and directed numerous winter guard programs for over 17 years in Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Maryland, New Jersey, and New York. He has served as an Honor Band conductor Westchester County, New York, and has served as publicity chair for Westchester Co. School Music Association (WCSMA). Mr. Jenkins holds or has held professional memberships with GMEA, NAfME, SAPA, WGI, NYSSMA, NYSBDA, and FFJA as well as affiliations with the USSBA, NYSFBC, WGAZ, CWEA, and FFCC. Mr. Jenkins completed his undergraduate degree at Florida A&M University and Georgia State University. He holds a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from Kennesaw State University and is currently pursuing post graduate studies in music education at the University of Georgia.
