Skyler Grillo is excited to return to the Marching Percussion Division of the Summer Symposium for the third straight year! Skyler is a marching percussion specialist from Dartmouth, Massachusetts and has been teaching in the south coast Massachusetts area since 2013. He is a graduate of the Dartmouth High School percussion program, being battery section leader in 2011. While at Dartmouth, under the direction of Tom Aungst, Skyler won back to back WGI World Class championships in 2008 and 2009. In 2010, the group earned a silver medal, and in 2011 Dartmouth received silver. Skyler has marched with the 7th Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps in 2011 after graduating, and received the Bronze medal in the snare solo competition in Indianapolis during finals week. Skyler returned to WGI world championships as a performer in 2015, winning a PIA gold medal with PureFusion Percussion (Boston). Skyler is a graduate of the Umass Dartmouth Percussion program, where he studied world music (African Drum and Dance, and Indonesian Gamelan) and most notably steel pans. Skyler has worked with several high school programs including Plymouth High School (2013), Dartmouth High School (2016), and currently is the battery coordinator and arranger for New Bedford High School (2014-present) and percussion director of the All City Middle School Marching and Concert Band for the New Bedford school district, a program where he trains young percussionists to move on to the competitive high school activity. He also holds the battery coordinator position and co-caption head at Somerset Berkley Regional High School (2017-present). Skyler would like to thank his mentors would have helped him through his career including Tom Aungst, Neil Larrivee, Neil Sylvia, Jamie Eckert, and Royal Hartigan.
