Well my friends, it’s not everyday that you get to witness an 1,800 person standing ovation for an Oboe Concerto, but that’s the positively life-changing stuff we talk about.
The Yamaha Young Performing Artists Concert began with the lively Xeno Fanfare performed by the Boston Brass and Allen Vizzutti. You could feel the excitement fill the room with each chord. The repertoire of the night ranged in style from Donizetti opera concertos to jazzy versions of some of our favorite folk songs, modern percussion pieces and many other musical tastings which kept every person in the audience captivated from start to finish.
It is an incredible thing to watch a performance with so much energy surging throughout the hall. You could tell by the looks on each performer’s faces that the joy was translated through the thunderous applause before and after each piece. I have attended many concerts, recitals and performances in my life and I can’t recall a time that I saw so much enthusiasm and support coming from an audience as I did during this concert. The energy seemed to flow directly to the artist and the room was electric!
Personally, I had a very visceral reaction to the experience. It was my first opportunity to sit and listen to a performance and just take it all in. It reminded me that we are all here for different reasons but in the end, we all have music in common. Thank you to the Yamaha Young Performing Artists who shared their incredible talents with us!
