Friday is always a busy day at the Summer Symposium! Alongside our many other activities, we hosted CITSA day, which provides a day-long camp experience for bands that are a part of the Central Indiana Track Show Association. During this time, students from four Central Indiana schools visited Ball State’s campus for a full day of music-centered activities. Through this experience, Music for All hopes to service the Central Indiana region, which is the home to Music for All headquarters, as well as further service small and rural programs.
Students started their day at Scheumann Stadium observing show-day rehearsals of The 2019 Summer Symposium’s Corps-in-Residence, Carolina Crown. Students got to hear real-time commentary about the rehearsal from marching band division faculty member, Jordan Lalama. After a lunch break, students attended leadership sessions presented by Fran Kick and marching band division head Bobby Lambert. Students wrapped up their CITSA day experience by attending a student recital put on by the concert band division. CITSA day participants are encouraged to attend the Drum Corp International show that occurs later in the day. At the show, they are able to experience a new style of marching band and also observe the benefits of extensive practice and concepts introduced in the rehearsals they attended.
Throughout the day, students vocalized how grateful they were for having the opportunity to participate in activities and hope to attend camp for the full-week experience next year!
