The Summer Symposium has had a great start with our Leadership Weekend. Today, students learned the many ways to lead their peers through immersive team-building activities. As someone who was once a leader in my high school band, it was amazing to see so many leaders from across the country come together to merge their skills. I wish I had the opportunity when I was in high school.
The Leadership faculty does a great job making sure they are teaching in captivating ways. Students learned how to build and maintain relationships with their peers and others. They learned to lead in silence and with a strong voice. Knowing which is more appropriate for certain situations is key!
The great thing about these leadership sessions is seeing the content goes beyond band! These are skills that are transferable to other activities and future leadership positions in higher education and in the work place! I surely learned quite a bit that I plan to apply to my own positions.
